Question: How to find operon sequence?

Hi, everyone I want to find the DNA sequence of mamAB operon (M. gryphiswaldense). Where can i search for it?

gene sequence

1 answer

NCBI.

Do you know the sequence of any of the genes within it? Do you know the definitive names of any of the gene symbols? Need somewhere to start.

Search term: "Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense" [orgn] AND mamA [GENE]

I know the sequence of some genes within it.

know the sequence of some genes within it. how can I use them?

The simplest/manual way would be to go to the NCBI genome from which that protein/gene derives (via BLAST if necessary). Download the full genome, open it up in a viewer like Artemis. You can then search within Artemis for the sequence/gene name, and see the gene in its genomic neighbourhood.

You can then 'zoom out', and select the relevant genes/stretch of bases of interest.

If you want to do this automatically, you're going to need to know the start and end indices of the operon before you can 'cut' it out.
