What Is The Best Way To Get Up To Speed In The Field Of Next-Gen Sequencing

I am new to NGS and would like to know more about the basic fundamentals, terminology, etc. about the subject. Is there a good review article, textbook, or any other source that would be great to use as a reference?

For introduction to NGS I suggest youtube lectures and wiki NGS book.
Learn by doing: Istvan Albert course Applied Bioinformatics, especially Code Repository (code used in NGS analysis).

Again, I'll recommend these videos on the GATK pipeline as a good place to start.
Best way to get up to speed with anything is to learn by doing. Download some data, install some software, get it running. In my experience, it helps immensely when you need to do it (for research), rather than just thinking it might be interesting (idle curiosity).
