question about microarray probes

I'm trying to analyse previously published data from microarray chips. Why is there more than one probe per gene? how do i interpret conflicting results from each such probe? Thanks

Multiple probe sets might capture different isoforms of the gene. There is no gold standard solution to this. Please browse existing threads in which this has been discussed, e.g. starting with Microarray: How To Select One Of Multiple Probes Corresponding To A Gene
