Why there are samples with different platforms?

Hello,

I was looking at this GEO dataset, and I see there are samples with the same number but the last part of their name which shows their assay are different. I have two questions:

  1. What is the reason of genotyping using two different assays(platforms)?
  2. If I want to use this dataset for analysis, should I only consider one group of samples with the same assay?
