I think that ImageJ (Free Java Software, dedicated to biolabs) is able to perform what you are looking for.

I've used ImageJ for a variety of analysis (from particles to gels) and I (too) strongly recomend you try it out.

Also you could try PyElph for windows; the newer version also supports x64 systems.

There is a new free online program for gel analysis. (July 2021)
