Free Alternative of Biedit in Linux / OSX
Hi!
Does anybody know tools that can do multiple sequence alignment of nucleotide as amino acid. I can do that easily on Bioedit, but could not find any (free) tools that can do that in Linux or OSX. I know that Geneious can do that but it is not free. I tried Aliview, but not as straightforward as Bioedit.

BioEdit does not, in fact, do multiple sequence alignment: it uses external tools to do this.
SeaView is a (much simpler) linux, macosx and windows alternative to BioEdit. Like BioEdit, it wraps external programs to perform alignment (clustalo and muscle, if memory serves me right) and phylogeny estimation.

What have you tried to find those alternative? Please google "free alternatives to Bioedit". Practically all relevant MSA (clustalW, Muscle, MAFFT) tools are open source.
Jalview would be another free option.
