This is a bioinformatic question maybe? I think I could understand what it means but I couldn't find an exact definition. If you think this is a language problem I would accept as well, Since I'm not a native English speaker, nor live in a English speak country. I don't know where to find the answer, so I asked a question here, which I think should be a right place.

If this question make any inconvenient, Please accept my apologies for it.

This is indeed a language problem, 'program' is not meant in the sense of software here, but in the sense of a defined series of events, e.g. 'gene regulatory program'. This is in fact an analogy only, that helps us to think about something in analogy to an artifact ('regulatory machinery') even though it is not a very precise analogy: it is not an artifact, and there is no programmer.

If you need disambiguation, again you need to provide context, that means where you have read the term. Googling the term will also come up with useful disambiguation.

Thanks for your reply! But googling the term help little, and that's why I'm asking here. It arised from here http://science.sciencemag.org/content/355/6332/eaai8478.full "We refined the sets of glial lineage genes using the scRNA-seq data to define astrocyte-like and oligodendrocyte-like expression programs that covary across IDH-A cells" I find I couldn't figure out what "expression programs " means here, I think it is a set of gene specificity expressed in each cell type ,then seaching for the definition of a "expression program" turn out to be a hard task.
