Hi Do not put too much text! A lot of smallprint is scaring people off. Write your ideas short and precise, so it is easy to read. For results use plots/figures and for details use yourself! Posters with owner by its side have more value, you can explain the details about how you conducted a study, can get direct feedback and do networking.

That would be my personal very simple guideline ;-)

For poster design I used Inkscape, a vectorial graphics designer to produce SVG. So you will have no problem scaling it for printing.
