I have a MSc in biotechnology and I am looking forward to do a PhD in computational biology. I have no experience related to the field (I am learning basic programing and statistics for that matter). However, I have no preferences for a topic within computational biology and I know that there is a wide spectrum of research field where computational biology is applied (e.g. comparative genomics, proteomics, single-cell RNAseq, etc.). My main goal of this post is to get an idea of the pros and cons of the major categories within computational biology (e.g. building novel tools vs analysis of existing data, genomics vs transcriptomics).

Sorry if this sounds a little vague, but please feel free to share your experiences. Thank you.
