Dear all,

I am new to the world of bioinformatics and I am trying to use the cutadapt to a series of files I have. The post doc in my lab. suggested I use "nano command" but it's not working out for me. Every time I write nano and the name of the text where the code is written I get a blank page.

Please, any help is appreciated

he must be suggesting to run a script and edit it using nano. because Nano is mainly for making small changes to existing files or for writing short plain text files.

Sounds like "I want to run cutadapt but microsoft word just open a blank page at startup". What are you trying to edit in nano ? how is it related to cutadapt ?

Presumably trying to edit a script that runs cutadapt. The title could be more informative.

Every time I write nano and the name of the text where the code is written I get a blank page.

That indicates that your file is not in the current directory. If you type nano file.txt and file.txt is not there, nano will assume that you want to create a file with that name and it will open a blank screen. Other possibilities, and very remote ones at that, are that your file has a size 0 (empty file) or that there is nothing in the first page of it so the first screen is blank.

To make sure a desired file is there and its size > 0, type:

ls -al file.txt
