Can one enter a karyotype number into a NEXUS file?

Can one enter a karyotype number into the characters field in a NEXUS file and if so what is the format of the DataType? We need to work out the most parsimonious tree of karyotypic changes across a lineage where we know the karyotype numbers on the tips.
