I would like to analyze a species whether it has the same biological function A as the control using RNA-Seq data. First of all, I predefined a set of genes that represents the biological function A. Next, I plot the normalized counts using a line graph to show the gene expression pattern. My hypothesis here is that if the patterns are similar, then they may have similar biological functions regardless of whether the expression values are low or high overall. Finally, I use spearman correlation to quantify the similarity. I would like to ask whether I am right to do such an analysis.
