How to find the taxonomic position of E.coli
We will use the tool for the bacterial genome annotation called RAST . To increase accuracy of annotation, we need to specify the taxonomic position of the organism (number in the NCBI Taxonomy database). What number in the database corresponds to E. coli?

E. coli has taxonomy ID of 562. You can find taxID's for organisms using taxonomy browser provided by NCBI. There are links for common organisms on the main page. E. coli is there plus you can search for any others.
