Aggregating Bioinformatics Blogs

Hello everyone,

I've seen a discussion here on bioinformatics blogs, I noticed that there is a lot of us publishing very interesting articles on their blogs but unfortunately one could not spend a part of his work time browsing all blogs, some of us would use feed aggregator which is a good idea.

To make benefits for everyone, and making this feeds aggregates useful for everyone, I've created a feed aggregator on biocoders.net, I have three feeds currently one of them which was added lately is a tutorial like (protocols) on bioinformatics (see biocoders.net)

I would like to know if you are interested in sharing your blog feeds on biocoders.net, in an effort to increase your blog audience and making things centralized.

Once your feed shared on biocoders.net, an exerpt of your blog posts will be shown on biocoders.net with a link to your website and also the name of your blog/owner on our sidebar as contributors.

I would like to have your opinion on such effort in order to increase efficient networking between bioinformaticians.

It was a real question ! I don't understand why you closed the discussion, advertisement for what ? It is you personal point of view that I respect of course but it is not fair cutting a real wish to networking.

It's not a question detailing a bioinformatics research problem which requires a solution. By all means build an aggregator, just be aware that (1) it's not an original idea and (2) they are not actually very useful.

I have to say I agree with Neil and Casey here. And the answer is use Google Reader and connect with other bioinformaticians who do the same.

why would we need another RSS aggregator when there is http://pipes.yahoo.com ? (e.g: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=xi7_hKcp3BG4ZlO_EpPZnA ), when you can share your feeds via google-reader, when your network is using twitter, etc... ?

I was not aware of yahoo pipes, and still if it exist, do you really think using only 10 sources this tool is useful ? I don't think so. I am aware of the post on biostar that you sent, I said it in my message, I am only proposing an effort from my self to aggregate feeds, and will not certainly do it without people agreement. Anyway ...

There will always exist something but this does not mean that we can not create something better to serve a community, i am always wondering why people are saying why would you do "that" if "this" exist ? Improving things must start by looking at what is missing. :)
