Which Genes In Which Wikis ?

OK this needs context before I get to the question. I note UniProt are now pointing to GeneWiki, although techinicaly it looks like just genes that happen to be in there. I also note that these entries (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LACTB) are not coupled to WikiGenes, the entry for which in this case (http://www.wikigenes.org/e/gene/e/114294.html I sweated over for some hours (http://cdsouthan.blogspot.se/2012/08/lactb-in-wikigenes.html) Will anyone coordinate the two efforts or have I wasted my time ?

Yes, unfortunately WikiGenes and GeneWiki (aka Wikipedia) are not integrated among themselves. Thus, your edits on the LACTB gene in WikiGenes are probably not going to be integrated in the Wikipedia page, and not going to be accessible from Uniprot.

It's unfortunate that these two resources do not collaborate more, and I personally do not know if there are any plans for it. In any case, to take profit of your work, you can easily copy what you wrote in WikiGenes and paste it to GeneWiki/Wikipedia.

A comment from Robert Hoffman would be appropriate. Seeing as he drove the WikiGenes with a certain level of fanfair he should make efforts to ensure transfer. He might also know how many entries are in the same limbo land. I may get round to doing what you suggest GMD but the format differences mean it may not be a simple past job (so has anyone done the same thing ?) It also seems odd that HGNC have implicity given WikiGenes the "cred" of an x-link whereas UniProt gives the x-link "cred" to GeneWiki (something to sort out over coffe on the Hinxton campus perhaps ?)
