Hello everyone, I have a bachelor's degree in Biology with specializations in Biotechnology and Microbiology (Upper Second Class Honors). I have worked as a Genomics Laboratory Assistant for two years and my contract is coming to an end in April next year, 2021. Having worked in the Genomics Department of a research company in the Caribbean, I have attained experience in bioinformatics from one of the few laboratories on the island where possible. I have experience in research and publications are coming out of it, however none of the publications are related to my interests, which is in bridging gaps in improving health, and I would like to get started in this direction.
At present, I am taking courses from edX to improve my ability to analyse data having come from a life sciences background, I am learning Python and I am planning to take courses from bioinformatics.org and bioinformatics.ca. However, I would really like to get started on an academic career in bioinformatics, I would like the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree. Is there any advice that can be given to me to start me in a good direction?
Thank you for any inputs! Best
It should be noted that a master's degree is required for these positions, therefore, I think master's programs will be a better fit.
Just wanted to post an example. Clarification added.
