Forum: Experienced bioinformatician, zero UK interviews, what am I missing?

Hi all,

I have 4+ years of bioinformatics experience (WGS, WES, RNA-seq, Nanopore, PacBio), 6 publications, and an ASHG presentation. I am currently completing an MSc in Health Genomics at a UK university, which will finish in September 2026.

I have been applying to bioinformatics and research assistant roles at UK universities, companies and NHS Trusts for several months. However, I haven't received any interview calls so far.

Is the lack of prior UK institutional experience genuinely killing applications at the screening stage? Has anyone successfully broken into UK bioinformatics from outside? What actually helped?

Looking for some advice.

Thanks

From the outside? You don't have working rights in the UK? if that is the case I would expect that is the easiest reason to assume you are not getting interviews.

I am already in UK, doing a second masters
