Pseudotime inference assumptions in scRNA-seq domain
Hi,
In this paper authors state the following:
"We assume that (transcriptomic) similarity between two cells implies a developmental relation."

I wonder what are the cases when this is not true?

This isn't a bioinformatics question - it will likely be closed if you don't edit it to put it in the context of bioinformatics.
I could see instances where cells are transcriptionally similar (response to certain treatments) without necessarily being related, but those are cases where pseudotime analyses probably aren't being done. Or at least shouldn't be done.
