What is a good sequence editor?

Hello, everybody!

I used to use BioEdit in Windows to edit my FASTA files with sequences, but it isn't available for Linux. What is a good editor to this OS?

sequence editor linux

Depends what you want to do. For most stuff, IMO nothing beats awk.

I'm not sure if there are a lot of situations in which editing sequences using an editor is a good idea.

You may try BioEdit with Wine - I have used many years ago and it worked, should still work with more recent versions of Wine.

You may also try VIM with DNA syntax highlight (I never tried, as I have a serious VIM trauma: the first time I used VIM, without graphical interface, I could not exit it and had to reboot my computer).

Another one I never used - but it looks pretty - is JalView.

I use SeaView, I like its simplicity and bundled applications, although editing fasta is really awkward,.

You may try some paid software, like Geneious.
