SRA toolkit - problem with instalation

Hi,

I want to use SRA toolkit on Ubuntu machine. I've found that I have to get the newest version and "install" it from binary files (like here https://github.com/ncbi/sra-tools/wiki/HowTo:-Binary-Installation). I do all these steps. However, previously I install the older version from get-apt install etc. And now - there is still obsolete verision on my machine and there is still a bug. How can I remove the older version from my machine?

If you don't want to (or don't have access to) delete things installed by admins then follow solution suggested by @Ram in this thread.
