Forum: Online/remote/distance learning/ - partime/fulltime - PhD, Bioinformatics in USA

Hi All,

I seek your guidance in finding some good universities in USA who offers online PhD in Bioinformatics. NYU provides MS in Bioinformatics but not PhD. I understand PhD cannot be completely achieve online but is there any university who have part time online programs for PhD. Like few classes oncampus, few online (mostly), research/thesis online(1-on-1 with prof).

Why i am looking for part-time online PhD is i am full time employee still struggling to follow my passion of bioinformatics and always wanted to do PhD. I dropped out my PhD from University of Connecticut 3years ago, to help my family.

I also interested part-time/distance learning PhD program in bioinformatics. I know George Mason University and University of Delaware provide distance learning for some core and elective course for PhD program. Does Rutgers and Columbia university provide online learning for PhD students too? What other university provide online learning for PhD program?

Actually, NYU offers a bioinformatics PhD as a specialization in the Biology program (Genomics & Systems Biology) and at the School of Medicine program (Systems & Computational Biomedicine).

How long does a part time phd take? 10 years? .... and yes, this is sarcastic. But I am not convinced by any part time 2 year phd program. That is just not how it is supposed to be done.

I'm interested in online phd bioinformatics as well, but not able to find anything. I'm seeing some programs as part time, but it seems to be in-person on campus. Did anyone find any online phd bioinformatics offerings? Please share .Thank you.
