Bioinformatics Analyst I, II, III

About JAX-GM: Comprising 183,000 square feet of highly advanced, state-of-the-art laboratories and supporting facilities, the brand new JAX-GM conveniently sits midway between NYC and Boston in the heart of Connecticut. JAX-GM is part of an exciting $1.1 billion venture between the state of Connecticut and The Jackson Laboratory, an internationally-recognized research and educational institution with unparalleled genomic resources and research support services.

About the position: JAX-GM is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to support a broad range of microbiome analysis projects under the supervision of the Director of Microbial Genomic Services. Typical projects include, but are not limited to, experimental design consulting; data processing and quality analysis; interpretation of results; data integration; evaluation of analytical tools and technology; and delivering training to the research community.

The Bioinformatics Analyst will participate in the generation and analysis of human and mouse microbiome datasets using 16S rRNA, metagenomic, and metatranscriptomic approaches. Research experience in microbiology, microbial genomics, or microbiome analysis is strongly preferred.

Characteristic distinctions from level I to level III include increased ability to work independently, breadth of bioinformatics knowledge and tools, and understanding of the biological research domains. Level III analysts may pursue limited co-PI collaborations with research faculty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Level I Analyst duties include entry level statistical analysis, algorithm implementation, bioinformatics programming, running programs and packaging results for clients. Evaluating data for quality assurance, and mining bioinformatics databases as a service for clients. Tasks are complex, but the incumbent has support of immediate supervisor or mentor for directional support during execution of work.
  • Level II Analyst duties include basic statistical analysis, algorithm implementation, bioinformatics programming, running programs and packaging and interpreting results for clients. Conducting, analyzing, and interpreting quality assurance data. Mining bioinformatics databases and interpreting results. Often receives tasks from clients but requires attention from supervisor or mentor for additional directional support.
  • Level III Analysts work directly with clients, and receive work directly from clients. Includes all the responsibilities of the Level II Analyst, but works more independently and provides more in-depth interpretation of results. Level III Analysts act as mentors to junior-level colleagues. Presents materials at seminars and assists in department-level strategic planning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Level I requires BS or MS degree in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics, or relevant biological sciences field. Incumbents who have not achieved MS degree may compensate for lack of a degree with at least five years of professional bioinformatics work experience. Works under close supervision.
  • Level II requires MS or PhD degree in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics, or relevant biological sciences field. Incumbents who have not achieved a PhD may compensate with a MS degree and at least five years of professional bioinformatics work experience. Works with limited supervision.
  • Level III requires MS or PhD degree in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics, or relevant biological sciences field. Incumbents who have not achieved a PhD may compensate with at least seven years of professional bioinformatics work experience. Incumbents with a PhD will have completed a bioinformatics postdoctoral fellowship and/or a minimum of two years of professional bioinformatics work experience.

Please reframe the post with the link to the online portal or the contact information to whom the resume and cover letters should be sent. Also please specify if it's only restricted to US nationals or even foreigners are eligible or not if there is a sponsorship available. This should help in the clarity of the post. Thanks

Perhaps also fix the bullet points so that they're easy-to-read bullet points again, rather than gigantic block paragraphs.

Yes, I agree to your proposal. I actually checked the website of the Jackson Labs and everything is clear there and it's just a copy-paste. I would be happy if the OP can just add the link so that potential candidates can reach out and take a look and apply. I am not putting the link unless if someone asks then I can add it here and our moderators can add it in the main post but then the OP should do it so that I do not want to offend anyone.
