Forum: What do you work on while waiting on your programs to finish?

I have a few jobs that take all the limited resources that I have currently and it looks like I'm not working. So I generally work on reports for our cases, read a paper, or hit up Biostars.

What do you do if you have idle time?

Do you have idle time if you are working on a server?

fun

Looks like you missed "catching up with email".

That isn't as much email for me :) I'm more "gene jockey" than "important".

aannnnnd. I just printed that out and it's on my desk :)

I work on making my programs faster. If I have enough time to make it faster while waiting for it to finish, I kill the old version and restart it.

I think that is going to far :) Although as a user of BBMap thank you for the work!

I can barely write simple scripts so I'm not even sure how to optimize them.

Read Nature/Science news, go bug other people in the lab, grab a beer?

I argue with people about trivial things on the Internet.

Plan another KC Bioinformatics meetup (J/K). : )

Try and make the argument for more computational resources! Ha ha. But seriously, those are all good options. Learning new keyboard shortcuts?

hahahaha! I did learn somethings from trying it the last time. Mostly what I don't want in a group. I think if I do it again it will be better.
