Forum: Masters in bioinformatics

Hi all,

I am BE computer science graduate. I have been working on python as system programmer from 2 years.

Now I want to expertise in life science, by full time masters in bioinformatics or computational biology.

I would like to know the scope, best colleges in India, etc.

Kindly give some insight.

computer-science python

If you are only interested in colleges in India then it would be best to add that reference to the title of this post.

You could work in bioinformatics without a formal degree utilizing your programming skills. I would suggest that you look at many knowledge based informatics software companies (e.g. strand genomics, tata consultancy) that currently are based in India.

Since you are an engineer you probably lack a significant amount of biology knowledge that you would need to pickup. If you are truly interested in doing a degree in informatics look for a program that would include these skills.

hi, There are Bioinformatics educational programs at the following institutions: Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts USA Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts USA Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts USA

Some of the best universities: SASTRA University, University of Pune, Pondicherry University

Is SASTRA better than CEG/PSG/GCT? When did that happen?

This is likely highly subjective and difficult to measure.

Not so. As a SASTRA alum, I know where it was in comparison to the others I've mentioned. There are pros and cons of course, but claiming it's one of the country's best is highly exaggerated, unless it has changed dramatically since I left.
