We detected significant 1-octanol downregulation (vs. control) in the brain from our liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) measures. Previous reports of naturally occurring 1-octanol are absent in the literature as far as we know. Is this an artifact from LC-MS or is it possible that 1-octanol is naturally produced in the brain? Given that it is commonly used as a gap junction blocker, are there any reports on its natural function?
