Hi! I'm a software engineer willing to begin in the world of bioinformatics. But while i was searching for resources to learn the basics, I realized they're all oriented to biologists. The only I found quite useful was this link in the forum: Recommend Your Favorite Bioinformatics Books
So, my question is for you all experienced professionals in the field: which are the core concepts i should know and understand to begin learning bioinformatics? Which are the books i should start reading?
Thanks in advance and sorry if someone did this question before

If you're from a software background you might find Ben Langmead's Teaching Materials page useful.
The link works for me :)
For anyone landing on this page, the updated link is: https://www.langmead-lab.org/teaching.html

To be honest, if you already know how programs/computers work, it wouldn't hurt to learn a bit of Biology :) How sequencing is done, what the output data contains at a theoretical level, what the major focuses of research are, those sort of things. All of the seqs and omics.
Alternatively, walk further in the opposite direction where everything is just some parameter of Bayesian model. A computer cant rationalize about assumed biology, so if you just want to do "big data analysis" one could argue that you don't need to either. Leave that to the biologists and brush up on the statistics.
