Hi all,
I was told by a bioinformatician that given a butch of microarray profiles, the genes with large magnitudes are more variable than genes with low magnitudes. Noise in gene expression is modelled by a poisson distribution. While this makes intuitive sense, I was not able to find a reference. Does anybody know a reference for this statement?
Thank you very much.

A well known reference in this area is Rocke, Durbin 2001.

I just popped "microarray noise poisson" into Google Scholar. There are lots of references.
Hi Wendy, Neil's suggestion was a good one. Looks like this is the reference you want: http://www.pnas.org/content/99/22/14031.full
