what the "cycle" mean in MeanQualityByCycle of picard

Hi,

I use picard tool "CollectBaseDistributionByCycle" to plot a figure "CollectBaseDistributionByCycle.pdf". But I have no idea about what's the mean of cycle of x lab. Who can tell me what it means? Thanks.

A cycle is a base. To make a 100 base read, the sequencer cycles through a given procedure 100 times, which is where the term comes from.
