Postdoctoral Research Associate Opportunity

The Genome Informatics Facility (GIF) and the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at Iowa State University are searching a full-time postdoctoral research associate to lead the annotation and curation of the Soybean Cyst Nematode genome project. Primary responsibilities include the creation of a genomic toolbox and the integration of very large sequence datasets, molecular markers, functional gene characterization knowledge and genetic maps into the newly created SCNBase, while maintaining interoperability with the existing SoyBase resource (soybase.org). There is a need for the creation of generic plant-pathogen genomic resources. The individual will also have the opportunity to work on several ongoing genome projects in the GIF. Current minimum postdoctoral salary at ISU is $42,840 and salary will be commensurate with experience. The candidate is expected to take the lead on publishing this work and will also have grant writing opportunities in the future. Funding guaranteed for the first year with renewals up to three years.

Qualification Requirements:

The successful candidate will be able to work independently, is detailed oriented and is a quick learner. Individuals with strong computational skills are encouraged to apply. Experience in at least one programming language (perl, python, R) and knowledge in UNIX is required. Candidates with experience in database development, HTML, PHP and GMOD tools are preferred. We will consider candidates who are experienced programmers and self-starters and are interested in gaining experience with biological data processing

Interested individuals should send a cover letter and CV to gif@iastate.edu
