Gene in ncbi

Excuse me:

When I entered a gene name in ncbi search engine (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/2972) and click the 'GenBank' button, it displayed different names of genes. So how could I understand this phenomenon?

Many thanks in advance!

you can see under the "also known as" section all the synonyms of the gene. For historical reasons a gene can have many names (eg: different labs were studying it in different contexts and gave it different names).
