I'm trying to help my cousin choose a long term career path in biology and need advice.
Hi,
My cousin is starting at a community college. His plan was to get a PhD in Biochemistry, but was strongly advised against that by others. He wants to somehow work in the pharmaceutical field however. My plan is that he gets associate degrees in Biotech, Math and Computer Science. Then he can transfer into a state school and major in applied math, while minoring in Bio and Comp Sci. From what I've heard, this is a very useful combination. Would you recommend this?

I'd recommend that he makes his own decisions
I can't follow that recommendation when his decision involves spending hundreds of thousands of dollars - which he absoluely can't afford - to enter an oversaturated field.
We can't compensate for the fact that the US educational system is overly expensive (100k's $ for community college, are you kidding?) and unfair.

We can't help you with that. If you want to optimize for maximum economical gain, maybe you should force him to not study bioinformatics, but to become a lawyer or banker or a medical doctor, dentist, real-estate agent, etc..
