mySQL won't start and I could not use Perl API for ensembl

Could anyone share with me how to correctly install MySQL for perl API for ensembl? I have tried the whole day and it did not work.When I run "mysql" on terminal and it keeps showing the following message.

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

And when I run sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start, It keeps displaying the following message

.................... ERROR! The server quit without updating PID file (/usr/local/mysql/data/Macintosh-2.pid).

In order to work on Perl API on Ensembl(which is a bioinformatic question) , I have to get MySQL working locally. But it is hopeless when I am trying to get answers from other sites and none of them

seem to work. So I believe this kind of problem is experienced by many users who are also using Perl API and might have solution for it. So, I disagree that this is not a bioinformatic related question

and I think posting it would help me solve my problem and perhaps many others’ problems faster. so I hope this can be opened again.

I am going to stick with my decision. Your question is: "How to run mysql under MacOS Yosemite"

The best way to resolve your problem is to go to a specialized forum and to follow the instructions precisely. Have you tried everything in the link on stackoverflow? Your way of starting mysql is not according to the manual, which recommend launchd method.
