Forum: Why does Biostars look awkward in Chrome / Chromium

I have noticed that www.biostars.org is rendered differently under Chrome and Firefox. There are plenty of features missing in Chrome, including user pictures, upvote/bookmark icons... Why is that?

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Chromium 41.0.2272.76 / Chrome 42.0.2311.90.

EDIT: It was window size / scaling issue of chromium. It looks fine in large window with default scaling (100%).

For me under Fedora 21, this thread renders identically on Firefox and Chrome -

Firefox 37.0:

Chrome 42.0.2311.90:

Just out of curiosity.. Why in incognito mode ??

I was checking whether this may be due to Chrome extensions / cookies etc.

I can't see the images that you refer to but I am guessing the browser window is sized differently. When the browser window gets smaller features will start disappearing to make the content more readable. You can test that by resizing any browser window (drag vertical window border in and out).

Perhaps the trigger points at which the site gets resized should be changed - we were using some standard values that came with bootstrap.

Thanks Istvan, it was window size / scaling issue. Is it part of mobile devices support?

yes it is mobile support, it has three levels of rendering and triggers on window width, perhaps a little too soon. New version will only have two sizes and the compact one will trigger at a much lower width.

That sounds great. There are so many low resolution projectors out there so when you bring up BioStars during a presentation you often wind up with the mobile version.
