Download bacteria/archaea genes from IMG Data Management

I want to use shortBRED in my work and as mentioned in the instruction of this tool, a "Reference Set of Proteins from IMG" should be prepared. I wonder how I can download the gene data of bacteria/archaea from IMG?

They have a poorly documented API.

For downloading manually you could for example use "gene search" and select a term/gene id and the genomes you want to search against.

For automatic download I tried the API that was refered to above, but I am not sure if it is for IMG data or only JGI genome portal.
