number of refseq genes of dog

Hi all!

When I use the UCSC table browser, I find the refseqGene tracks of dog has only about 2000 items, and about 400 items of cat.

I think these numbers are strange , because dog and cat have almost the same number of protein-coding genes as human.

Sorry if this is an obvious question.

Thanks!

gene refseq

If you look at a different gene track (Ensembl, for example), you'll see many more genes for cat than that. Refseq genes have relatively stringent standards and are thus less numerous for organisms of lower clinical importance.

Thank you!

I'll take a look.
