I would like to promote the following performance and exhibition by Pina Kingman, that will take place in Bergen, Norway with contributions from the Visualization Group, University of Bergen. I expect the event provides a new and fascinating perspective to genome science, an excellent approach to increase public perception of our field.

In celebration of our love of the electronic arts, we present an exciting evening filled with the rare combination of art, music and science. The premiere of Our Resilient Genome, an animated science film by Pina Kingman, will be screened followed by a house DJ set by internationally acclaimed DJ Eddie Da Bass.

The exhibition will feature a short science animation Our Resilient Genome by filmmaker Pina Kingman and developed with the Visualization Group Department of Informatics in the Physioillustration project at the University of Bergen. The film tells the story of our DNA, how it is constantly breaking and rebuilding over and over again to keep us alive, and provides a glimpse into the fascinating world of cellular biology.

The artists

Pina Kingman is an animator and filmmaker. Originally from Vancouver Canada, she is now based in Bergen, Norway. Her work focuses on presenting scientific information in an engaging and accessible manner. She uses 3D animation and motion graphics to illustrate subjects ranging from cellular function, pathology, and human anatomy for both the entertainment and health-education industries. Pina is also working to disseminate important science research to the public through art exhibitions and other public events. Through art, film, and animation, Pina hopes to help make science-education a little less daunting and a bit more fun.

Eddie Da Bass has been involved in the house-music scene since 1996 and is well know for his energetic DJ sets. He has travelled all over the world and shared his dirty beatz with the dance floors of Ibiza, Miami, New York, Toronto, Europe and Scandinavia. Since 2010 he has been a part of a DJ/production trio called R.E.C., comprised of Ralph Myerz, Eddie Da Bass & Carina Faye. Their album titled "DiscoTech" is due for release in KLIK Records late this year.

It probably will be in the future, according to Pina it will first travel around the world within the art performance for a while. I also assume that a video will only imperfectly capture it, as it is part of a larger installation.
