Report on the Use of Computers in Biology and Medicine. 1960. Robert Ledley had trained as a dentist, but moved to computers as they were coming along. Margaret Dayhoff worked with him, and they were the 2 authors on the COMPROTEIN paper in 1962.

I would say this falls into the unconventional file. But it cracks me up, and if someone used it in a presentation I think it would be fun.

Well, that's what that whole thread on twitter was about--who launched the organism Venn craze. And the rat genome team thinks it was them. This was their evidence. Apparently this really is a vintage item, I don't think it's available anywhere.

And this is the National Biomedical Research Foundation (NBRF) Atlas of Protein and Genomic Sequences (June 30, 1994). It was designed to access data from PIR. Also ok to upload this to Wikimedia commons.

I just came across this paper, and the images were new to me. I love the one of accessing GenBank in 1983. But there is also one of amino acid beads and computer code from 1962.

I love this photo (& this article). I've been planning to use it in an unpublished blog post and have done a little digging into it in the past. By my reckoning, Goad is looking at the human preproenkephalin locus, GenBank J00122, based on the primary sequence and length of the accession.
