The Debian Med project is a "Debian Pure Blend" distribution that is fully contained within Debian, where it exists via tasks implemented through metapackages. One of them is "med-cloud". As of today it does not do much, but for the next release of Debian it will install a large quantity of packaged software such as BEDTools, Samtools, edgeR, BWA, cufflinks/tophat/bowtie, etc.
The idea is to provide a way to create machine images or to prepare computing nodes with a lot of the usual software pre-installed, while keeping the size of the system reasonably lean. For that reason, this task will not install programs with a graphical user interface or a dependency chain pulling full desktop environments.
The prospective list of packages in this task is available on line (see the previous link). Comments on that list and the best scope for this package are very welcome. Note that for a program to be part of this task, it has to be already packaged in Debian of course.
