I am studying a sequencing experiment that measured the expression levels from a gene, LOC283547, that has no annotated protein expressed. It is listed on AceView, however, as having 2 putative good proteins based on splice variants. Further, when I click through to the NCBI link it tells me that I am now dealing with a long non coding RNA, LINC00639.
My question: what is the probability, or how could I find out, whether there is actually a protein being expressed at that region of the genome instead of and/or in addition to the long non coding RNA?
