For the US bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary/interdepartmental subject. While this paper (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2859255/ ) is not recent, the following classification likely holds true.
- Interdisciplinary / interdepartmental: ~37%
- Biology / life sciences departments: ~21%
- Computer science / information science: ~13%
- Medical schools / health sciences: ~10%
