Conventions for designing flowcharts for bioinformatics workflows
What are widely followed conventions for designing flowcharts in bioinformatics workflows or pipelines?
For example, I often see inputs and outputs represented as parallelograms, processes as rectangles, and arrows indicating the flow of steps (e.g., here). Decision points are sometimes shown as diamonds, and I’ve also seen ovals used in certain contexts.
Are there standard conventions regarding shape usage, colors, text formatting, or other visual elements in bioinformatics flowcharts? I’d be grateful to hear what best practices people follow when designing them for publications, presentations, or documentation.
