Connection refused FTPI NCBI NR DATABASE

Dear all,

I am trying to download NCBI Database nr throught this command $update_blastdb.pl nr --decompress. However, it is not possible because appear this: Failed to connect to ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov: Connection refused

I tried to update bio package with $pip install bio --upgrade and I tried again, but appear the same fail. Someone known how I can to solve it?

Are you using the latest blast+ package?

If you used conda to install blast+ then you should have a reasonably latest version. Your local firewall rules probably prohibit you from using NCBI FTP server. If this is a laptop have you tried to use it from some other location?

You may be aware but nr database is several hundred GB in size. So keep that in mind in terms of bandwidth and local storage.
