To guide patient care in UCLA Health and its affiliates, the Dept of Pathology and Lab Medicine analyzes over 500,000 samples a month including 10,000 biopsy/cytology cases. At the Molecular Diagnostics Labs, we provide a large suite of molecular profiling services, but only around 350 undergo NGS-based molecular profiling. These include germline exomes and Heme/Solid tumor amplicon panels. NGS services being added within this year include a 1000-gene cancer DNA-seq panel, targeted RNA-seq, and cancer exomes. Tests that need UMI-based panels are next. There is clear demand from UCLA clinicians for in-house molecular profiling and the specialized staff needed to deploy such pathology workflows from DNA/RNA extraction to discretized molecular profiles in patient charts.
