Is linked-read sequencing still a thing for genome assembly?

Since 10xGenomix has discontinued developing linked-reads, is it still part of active research, especially in genome assembly ? Or is there a possibility that the production may continue in future.

Thanks.

I don't think so. AFAIK it was never as popular as Pacbio and nanopore, especially with the development of HiFi and ultra-long reads respectively.

Linked reads did allow accurate local assemblies. It was a unique application but unfortunately 10x decided that other technologies they offered were more profitable. Linked reads also provided phasing information.

I see. Linked-reads had few interesting applications. Thanks for the information @colindaven.
