Negative homozygosity rates from plink --check-sex?

After running plink (1.0.7) check-sex I see a fraction of samples with negative homozygosity rate (F, on X-chromosome). Why would the F ever be below 0 or above one? Shouldn't it be <0, 1>?

Also, are there any publications investigating the distribution of X-chromosome homozygosity rate with respect to sex?
