Correlation Between Alleles

Hello,

I am currently studying on F statistics. The problem that has puzzled me is that concept of correlation between alleles or gametes. I know the meaning of correlation between two random variables but what does it really mean when we talk about it in the context of fst?

what do you mean, exactly? Correlation between alleles of neighbor loci? Can you give some more context? Thanks

I am using Wright's original definition of F statistics where he mentions:

F: the correlation of genes within individuals theta: the correlation of genes of different individuals in the same population f: the correlation of genes within individuals within populations

The concept of correlation is vague for me here.

Maybe you want to know about linkage disequilibrium, which is an association between 2 or more alleles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linkage_disequilibrium

To quote from that page: "...linkage disequilibrium is the occurrence of some combinations of alleles or genetic markers in a population more often or less often than would be expected from a random formation of haplotypes from alleles based on their frequencies...The amount of linkage disequilibrium depends on the difference between observed allelic frequencies and those expected from a homogenous, randomly distributed model."
