Is the human chromosome 17 special in any way that the most used versions of the human genome already contain the start and end sequences for it, right from the beginning and right until the end?
Is it a chromosome with special biology or history to it, maybe with no telomeric repeats or some reason that made the sequence determination of its tips easier than the other chromosomes?

This was an oversight when the GRC was preparing GRCh37- the telomere gaps were accidentally omitted. They will be added when GRCh38 is released.
And therein lies a valuable lesson: when confronted with a striking, unexpected observation, your first thought should be, "what technical error would have led to this finding?"
