Protein Hmm Profile In R/Python?

Hi I am currently using the matlab Baysian toolbox to implement protein profile hmms and was wondering if any R/python fans have done anything similar in R/python. reason I ask is that I'd rather be doing it in one of those but haven't seen much support for it.
