I stumbled on the 24th chromosome pair, found by bioinformatic reanalysis of 23andme personal genetic data. Of course that meant that they had to rename the company to 24andme.

You have probably seen loads of others. I hope you can share them.
A practical aspect behind the question is that there were one or two things that I almost forwarded to other people because they didn't look weirder than what you see every day. So besides giving Biostar users a well deserved laugh the question could also prevent some embarrassment.
For this I really hoped that it was a joke, but after reading the article that is was based on I am afraid that it was not ...

Ensembl had a T.rex build in 2003 and it looked very professional. The only evidence I can find of it is here and here. It was more than just a press release and used the same skin as the functioning site

we all know that there is a 24th chromosome; it's the mitochondrial chromosome :-)

Thanks Neil. You are right. Actually the frustration that you cannot be sure about anything was one of the reasons to post it. Although the 24andme thing did make me smile, as did a lot of the Google jokes. I will close the question.

Chris: We haven't really been using community wikis for what they were designed but this is a way of preventing people from "reputation whoring" in these kinds of questions as it would defy the site's purpose a little.
Schrodinger did talk about 24 human chromosomes, and so did almost everyone until the 1950s (although some though human sex determination was XO). Chromosome preps just weren't good enough to count all those little ones accurately
I think this question should be closed now, but since it is wikified now, I can no longer do that myself.
