Perl Or Python Language

As a bioinformatician which language one must opt for PERL or PYTHON?

I have heard many bioinformatic groups talking about pythons application and flexibility but when it comes to using it in real life application most of them go for PERL.

So its very confusing, to decide which language one must Master? Although, knowledge of more than one programming language is always helpful.

I personally find python extremely flexible and user-friendly. I love the fact that you can call R functions from within python code. Of course there are some applications where Perl is probably more suitable. It all depends on what you are trying to do.
